Older computers were shipped with the system or recovery disks. These are disks that repaired or reinstalled your operating disks. New computers do not come with the recovery or operating system disks. These must be created before you have a problem with your computer. Most computers will start showing signs (slow operation, long boot up times or shutdown times) repair the computer before it fails to boot up. They put the responsibility on you. Usually the computer reminds you to create the disks. Most users do not do this. You can call up the computer maker and request them sent to you if you do not feel comfortable making them. So when your computer need software repair or won't boot up, you have to wait (days) to get the disk shipped. Some recovery disks require the hard drive to be reformatted which means all your data will be wiped clean. If you haven't backed up your files you may be out of luck. Also store these disks in a safe place along with any other software licenses and software which came with your computer. In a place easily found. This will minimize your downtime.
